When you’re shopping online, look at all the sizes.
But the rules are different when you’re looking for shoes, says Elizabeth Blyth, a retailing expert at the University of Toronto.
“If you’re on a budget, you might want to go for a smaller size,” she says.
“That way you’re not over-paying for a bigger size.”
And while you can find a decent pair of shoes on eBay, Blyst says it’s best to go online to see what’s currently available.
“It’s more like the online shopping experience,” she explains.
“You can do things with your shopping experience that you can’t do on the street.”
Here are some tips to get the most out of your online shopping trip.
When it comes to choosing a size, there are two big things to keep in mind: the width of your foot and how the shoe fits.
For women, a 4 in shoes is considered a standard shoe, while a 3.5 in shoe is a plus size.
So for example, a woman who is 5 feet 5 inches tall would be wearing a 4.5.
But if she is wearing a size 2, she could be wearing shoes that fit better.
“A woman who’s 5 feet 6 would probably go for shoes with a 3, or 3.75,” says Blyt.
“The shoes that have the most room for a wider toe would be a 4 or a 5.”
For men, there’s no such thing as a perfect fit.
“Men’s shoes are very narrow,” says Stephanie Parnell, founder of shoe-review website Stitches.
“They’re typically narrow, so they’ll fit smaller, or they won’t fit at all.”
You can’t go wrong with a pair of men’s shoes that will fit a woman, too.
Blyton says that even though men are more likely to wear smaller shoes, women will still look great with them.
“Women are usually much better than men at getting the shoe that is right for them,” she adds.
“For women, it’s a matter of personal preference.
For men it’s an individual preference.”
Here’s how to decide on a size for yourself.
The width of the foot: What size should you choose?
This is a tough question.
“I’m definitely a 4, but I would go with a 4 if it were a 6,” says Parnel.
But, Parnelle says, a 5 would be fine.
“5-6 is just a personal preference,” she points out.
“So you can go with an 8 or an 11 if you want.”
When it’s time to choose a size: When it looks like a pair might fit better, it can be tempting to go with that size.
“But if it’s not a size you would like, it doesn’t make sense,” says Ms. Parnells.
“Just go with the shoe you feel comfortable in.”
Here is what the experts say you should know before you go shopping.
A shoe size is generally a preference.
Bylth says the shoe industry tends to be pretty conservative when it comes the size of the shoe.
“Typically they’ll start with a standard size,” says she.
“And that’s usually what you’ll see on the website.”
But if it looks too large or too small, you can always get a smaller or larger size, which is the right way to go.
For example, the women’s sizes are 4, 5, and 6.
The men’s sizes range from 6 to 8.
“What size are you?”
When it all comes down to it, Bylt says you need to make sure you’re comfortable with your size when you shop.
“When you buy online, you’re usually going to have a couple of options,” she advises.
“Some will be like ‘This is my usual shoe size,’ but others will say, ‘This shoe fits better this way.'”
Parnelli says you’ll also need to be confident in the quality of the shoes you’re choosing.
“Even if the shoe is the same as your other shoe, it’ll have different properties that can affect the fit,” she said.
“There’s nothing wrong with that.
That’s part of the fun.”
“I would say go with one of the smaller sizes,” says Mr. Pernell.
“Because if it doesn’ fit, you’ll get a really great price.”
The right size is not the same thing as the right shoe size.
When shopping online for a pair, it should be clear which size you’re going to want.
If it’s going to be a long, straight line, go with something like a size 8, she says, which will give you an even longer, straight-line shoe.
If you want something that’s longer or narrow, like a 4-6, go for something like an 8-10, she adds, which gives you a narrower, more curved shoe.
