SAN FRANCISCO — In the days before the summer heat, people would drive to the beaches, then rent out rooms and take a nap at a nearby hotel.
They would then come back to their homes.
The Airbnb community is now in full swing, and it’s making it easier to rent out apartments and houses online.
The company said it plans to bring these types of rentals to more than 40,000 locations in the United States by the end of this year.
Airbnb has been offering these “temporary” rentals to people in San Francisco for years.
The new rentals are often offered to people who live in San Diego, and some of the hotels and apartments are just short-term rentals.
Airbnb, which has been operating in the city since 2008, said it is also looking to expand its footprint into the Bay Area, including in the Mission and East Bay areas.
For people looking for a quick fix, Airbnb said the company would allow people to book up to a week’s worth of rental space at one time.
It said that was similar to hotels, which allow up to two weeks.
Airbnb said it will not require a credit card, or rent a room for a fee.
A new Airbnb feature called “Temporary Rooms” allows people to rent rooms for a set period of time.
The website lets people book up for a maximum of two weeks without paying the full rental fee.
The site is designed to be used by people who are short-time travelers or have limited resources.
The feature is designed for people who may be visiting a particular area and don’t want to pay for their own hotel.
Airbnb says the site will work with anyone, including people who don’t have an Airbnb account.
“Temporary rooms are the perfect solution for people traveling long distances or short-timers looking to save money while still enjoying the beauty and tranquility of Airbnb homes,” the company said.
